On Facebook Brown Sheep posted an appeal to help those been affected in the Arapaho Fire. So much fire….and any help will can give will be of benefit! Here is the Facebook post.
Skein Lane Community….and all other knitters…do you want to join in this effort. Let’s do it!
I just spoke with Mary from the Platte Valley Disaster Relief Effort, and she was so excited to hear that we have stitchers willing to contribute to those who lost their homes in the recent Arapaho Fire. She said anything we want to contribute would be wonderful: hats, scarves, mittens, socks, prayer shawls, afghans, dish clothes. . . most of the folks who lost their homes are older. . .no children that she knew of (for sure).
Anyone who wants to contribute to this project can send their finished items to me:
Melissa Robbins
160472 Sauer Rd.
Mitchell, NE 69357
When we have a good supply of items, we will take them to Wyoming for distribution. If you have any questions, concerns, please let me know, and again, thank you for all of your input for this project. Thanks, too, for others who listed other resources where we can donate our finished goods.

Yesterday was a day of many joys…..knitting workshop in the morning…I am ever inspired by the knitting and thoughts of all the knitting groups who gather with Skein Lane. Back track another day to Friday….there were those of who caught up on the Colorado fires. Several of us had and have family and friends to concern us….the good news is that none of those lost their homes to fire! Now I hear the rains have come…we have new worries for our family and friends.
Now to Saturday group – those of you who haven’t heard…Nina’s husband Abe died this past Monday. We were all so grateful that she came to yesterday’s Saturday knitting workshop not just to knit and share but be comforted. We have journeyed, through our knitting time, with Nina and Abe’s illness. Many of us did not know Abe personally….but we knew him through Nina. I felt like I knew something about him…and I did….then I read his obit. I finished my reading feeling humbled, grateful, and sad about his leaving us. Thank you Abe for all of your contributions!
I will have to write the next of my thoughts “About what has been going on” separately.
Blessings and love to Nina and her family!

What a great “stumble” today. I’ve just read a terrific blog about jumpers. Do you all know what that means? Thank goodness this blogger liked my blog…or I would have missed her and this. Given my beginning years of learning to knit while I was a youth in the homeland of my Australian grandfather, this blog has special appeal to me. Read and enjoy!
Remind me to tell you about the first time I saw a kangaroo…I was all of 8 years old…. Okay….maybe I’ll tell you now. We, the family of Mom, Dad, my younger sister Betty and I, were visiting the Mallee near Bendigo, Australia. We were new to the area…..recently arriving from California to meet my grandfather’s family…we saw animals in the field and I say, “Daddy, look at the big horse running!”. Daddy points out to me that it is a kangaroo! I can still remember the entire image…..the kangaroo hopping across the pasture and Dad trying to keep up in the Model A Ford…yes, we had a car of that vintage. When we lived in Australia during the 50’s many things were 25 years behind the United States. I think I am one of the few in my circle of friends who grew up (for 2 1/2 years) with a wood-burning stove, the outhouse, a dry ice refrigerator, a wireless radio and the Model A. It was an adventure!

We celebrated! We lunched at Picante’s in Berkeley…we moved to the outdoors as the afternoon moved along. Terry was showing us her Crytal Palace kit shawl when a young man walked to his table. He and his friends were so impressed with her work…we all struck up a lively knitting conversation. They were impressed to meet the “knitting” Fire Captain.
Terry will be moving to Shasta area….she promises to come back and see us on a regular basis. I sure hope so…her knitting energy is surpassed only by her own personal energy! We agreed…we all have many stories and tales to tell and share.
