Yes…..it’s that time of year again where we celebrate our friendships within this holiday Christmas season. This is the second year that Karen K has hosted…..the setting is so lovely and so conducive to all mingling easily. Fourteen of us gathered and we are all so grateful to Karen for opening her home for this event. We laughed, we shared, we expressed our gratitude for years of friendship, we played the gift exchange game, we ate (catered from Picante), and we drank our favorite – margaritas…..Cameron and Sheri are the best bartenders.  We, of course, were treated by Merle to her infamous cheesecake. No gathering would be complete without Merle telling her traditional story of the Christmas tree in her childhood….we beg her to tell it again each year and each year it’s like we are hearing for the first time. We missed Bonnie, Mayra, Patricia and Sandy. I love FMKG (Friday Morning Knitting Group)!

By the way, my sewing machine has been “smoking”…..reversible aprons and Christmas tree napkins.

The Saturday morning group had their second celebration on Dec 19th….the first one was a joint birthday celebration which was followed up with this  ‘tis the season gathering.

There were so many wonderful happenings. Susanne came down from Chico (she and her husband retired there last year). The cooking theme was desserts….there were many wonderful choices. Maurie couldn’t join us because she was sick but she still sent her GF (gluten-free) cookies. We had so much on the table including champagne, cookies (many made by Diane and Maurie), cakes, egg dishes, baked brie with homemade cranberry sauce, cheeses, and fruit….I fear I may have missed some of the dishes.  Here are two recipes from the dishes on the table. The  Biscotti was made by PJ using her friend’s recipe which is posted on Channeling Nonna’s blog.  I loved this cookie and will be making it soon. Another dish (also prepared by PJ) that many of us “loved” was the Bacon Onion Marmalade.

We even found time to knit when we weren’t eating. The latest showings were worn by PJ and Susanne. PJ’s stunning red cowl was inspired by the pattern for Oliva Cowl from Swan Islands…the yarn was of the same name.

Susanne’s Wallaby Hoody Sweater (pattern from Vogue Knitting) was a beautifully knit garment and fit her perfectly. You may recall my posting from a while back when the sweater was in its infancy stage.

We have been together as a knitting group (Friday Morning Knit Group – thus FMKG) and friends for years! We began this year’s celebration with the “white elephant” gift exchange….you know the one where each person takes a number……then the person can either select from the unwrapped gift or bump someone who has unopened their gift. We put a limit of 2 on how many times a gift could bumped/stolen. What do you think is best…..2xs, 3 xs or unlimited?

In the midst of gifts, eats and champagne some knitting was accomplished. At noon we took our celebration to Skates on the Bay.

Now photos from Skates!

Karen H was so kind as to take “mug” shots…..and thanks to Jan for the above table photos.

…..well, we’ve never really been gone….I’ve just been absent from the “blogging board”….what better way to get back than honoring Jean who is so loved by us all. Some 15 of us gathered to celebrate her upcoming birthday! Jean is an avid knitter, witty as can be and a great friend to the Friday Morning Knitting Group aka FMKG peeps.

In the midst of gifts and cards, treats and champagne many of us were clicking our needles.

Another birthday ….. another round of celebrations and sharing. This week it was Bonnie from FMKG (Friday  Morning Knitting Group). The knitting table was full not only with chairs filled but with wonderful friendship. At one point there were more than a couple folks singing a camp song from their youth camp days.

Jan arrived looking stunning in her lovely knit shawl. Here are the details from Jan. “The shawl pattern is “Irish Moss” from Verybusymonkey.  And the yarn is Blue Moon Marine Silk (fingering weight) – 51% silk, 29% merino, and 20 % sea cell rayon.  The color is Sky Blue Pink.  487 yds per skein and one skein should have been sufficient but wasn’t.  Fortunately the pattern includes a shortened version and I was glad of that anyway since it would have been too long in the back otherwise. Verybusymonkey patterns are all beautiful, but they also are designed to curve around your shoulders, making them stay put a little better than other shawls.”

I did manage to whip out the iPhone for a few photos…but still way below my norm. Happy Birthday to Bonnie!

Saturday’s knitting workgroup celebrated the season with a brunch of fruit, baked oatmeal, cheeses, See’s peanut brittle (my favorite) and in the midst of that was another of my favorites – salt and pepper potato chips with Diane’s clam dip. What a mix of flavors and quite tasty with champagne. We ate, we knit and we were treated by Katie to glitter tattoos! We missed PJ, Margot, Carol C and Shari at this celebration!

ps…..the Baked Oatmeal has become a traditional serving….I discovered this recipe several years ago….it tastes great and the vanilla and cinnamon in that dish creates the best aroma while baking.

The blessings of the season have been on my mind…….and one of the many are the friendships that are shared throughout our knitting groups. Friday morning knitting group aka FMKG celebrated at Skates on the Bay (Berkeley) yesterday….there were 16 of us there (only one was unable to make it….we missed you Rachelle). We shared years of friendship, a meal, drinks of course, and a “gentle” white elephant gift exchange. I was #1 on the exchange…..and I am pleased to report that I love my gift….and the giver was happy that I received it! Look below for some flashbacks to our previous celebrations!

We knit….we celebrate!

I was more than a beat or two off this past Friday…..blame it on a bad sleep night….I didn’t whip out the camera to capture the celebration of the birthday girls at Friday knitting. So…envision Cameron, Karen H, and Janie surrounded by gifts of flowers, jewelry, unique knitting gifts, cards, champagne and a table full of knitting friends. Wait…there were strawberries and chocolate-covered macaroons (gluten-free no less and  you wouldn’t have known if not mentioned). The Friday Birthday Girls….photos from the photo gallery!

More birthdays…..in our Saturday knitting group Katie was the “Birthday Queen.

And there were a couple  one more a few weeks ago……Karen K and Rachelle from Friday group.
